Portable Water Generator

A Toronto, Canada company, GDS Technologies Ltd.,
says it has developed a portable generator that runs
solely on tap water.
The GDS portable water generator comes in three
models: 5,000 watts, 10,000 watts and 15,000 watts.
According to inventor Gregory Potter, the 5,000-watt
model can run for three days on four gallons.
A video demonstrates the 5,000-watt portable water
generator in action; there is no pollution or exhaust, no
hidden extension cords powering the device, no
batteries to replace, it is significantly less noisy than a
standard generator and the only upkeep is keeping the
water tank clean and supplied with fresh tap water.
Features of the portable water generator include
"rugged," non-inflatable (or deflatable) tires, an
emergency shut-off button, digital meters, a timer,
covered outlets, a breaker and an optional intake valve
that connects to a garden hose with automatic shut-off
with a floating device within the water tank.
According to Potter, the 10,000-watt model can power
two air conditioning units, but even the 5,000-watt
model is suitable for running a stove, or computers and
other electronics.
Models run from $5,360 Canadian to $14,885
Canadian, and will be available to the public "soon."
According to the company's Alibaba site, GDS
Technologies is currently capable of producing 400
portable water generators per month.

Even the mention of a termite can send terror into the

The termite superficially resembles an ant and is called a
white ant only because of their social

However, the regular termite is softer, whiter, shorter-
legged, fatter
and generally much slower moving. In actuality, a
termite is much more similar to the common
cockroach. Some experts feel like the termite belongs in
its own classification of insects instead
of being clumped together with ants in the Hymemoptra
class or a super order which contains
all of them called the Dictyoptera class.
The common termite has a biting mouthpart and their
soft bodies are rarely longer than one
centimeter in length. As a colony, they typically inhabit
dark nests and tunnels, only venturing
out when the winged alates emerge to leave their parent
colony, when constructing shelter or, in
the case of grass- and leaf-litter-feeders, when harvesting
their food. The alate is basically a
baby termite growing into a full blown termite and
getting ready to venture out into the world to
find their own food source to decimate!
As with ants, the termite resides in a colony along with
other termites. That is why they are
referred to as social insects. Termite colonies can
number anywhere from hundreds to even
millions of inhabitants. They work together to survive
and use self-organized swarm intelligence
to obtain food sources and sustain the colony.
Just as with ants, there is a certain hierarchy
within the colony. It is usually “ruled†by a queen
and there are workers, soldiers, nymphs, and
reproductive termites responsible for re-populating the
colony.
While a termite is a dreaded insect for most people, they
are easily recognized and easily
controlled when you know that you have a problem. If
you take the time to know about the
common termite, see the signs that you may have a

alleviate the problem, you will have much luck in
repairing the damage that these invading
insects can do.
What Are Termites
In the basic definition, termites are small, burrowing

Ants also live in colonies with each level performing
specific functions within the community.
They all work together to make sure that they all live in
relative peace having food and
protection. Not so unlike humans, right? But termites as
well as ants can be damaging to our
structures which is why we don’t want them around.
That’s why we need to better understand how the
colonies work. When we understand this part
of their living environment, we can better combat them.

Interlocking blocks – a cost effective building solution for Africa

Interlocking soil-cement blocks allow for the
quick and cost efficient construction of
housing units and other buildings. South
Africa-based Hydraform's Interlocking
Blockmaking Machines are currently being
used across Africa by property developers,
entrepreneurs, governments and NGOs.
One such company that is benefitting from
Hydraform's technology is Malawi's Hydra
Homes Ltd. Formed in 2009 by a British
Chartered Civil Engineer, the company has over
200 employees engaged in construction
projects around Malawi.
Hydra Homes specialises in dry stacked
interlocking construction utilising Hydraform's
blocks. This sets them apart from any other
construction company in Malawi. Hydra Homes
has an in-house architectural and engineering
team that can offer simple advice on projects
or develop full technical drawings for
developments for planning and construction.
Why interlocking blocks
Steven Tucker, international sales manager at
Hydraform, says that using interlocking blocks
have numerous benefits, especially for
companies operating on the continent.
One of the advantages of interlocking blocks is
that they can be dry-stacked with no mortar.
"This greatly increases the speed of
construction," he says.
This building system has been extensively
tested for structural strength and durability, as
well as for fire, rain and sound resistance.
Hydraform's blockmaking machines only use
three inputs, namely soil that can be sourced
on site, a small amount of cement that
provides stability to the blocks, and water. As a
result, the machines are ideal for sites where
transport costs for cement and sand are high.
They are also an eco-friendly, cost-saving
alternative to conventional vibration machines.
Hydraform machines are available in diesel or
electrical options. Depending on the model,
the machines have the capacity to produce
between 1,500 and 3,000 blocks per eight-hour
shift.
The machines are relatively labour intensive,
requiring about six operators. Tucker says that
for most companies and governments this is an
advantage because it creates employment
opportunities and allows for skills transfer.
According to Tucker, the company's technology
is particularly popular in Africa's mining
industry, where entire communities often have
to be relocated to make way for new mines.
Hydraform also provides full training on using
its machines as well as building techniques for
interlocking blocks. "We offer training
programmes both here in South Africa and on-
site across the continent. Our technicians would
give workers training on operating the
machines as well as maintenance. The
machines are relatively easy to use and people
normally learn quite quickly."
Tucker notes that although Africa is currently
the company's biggest market, its machines are
being used extensively throughout the world,
including South America, Central America, the
US, Eastern Europe and India.

tracker's IMEI number is unique and can only be used to
setup the software on one computer once, which means
you can only use the software on that computer
exclusively after successfully set it up. This is due to the
security requirements of the software and the product.
Both Google Maps and Google Earth can easily translate
the data into usable visual information.
Install the mic inside your passenger compartment, and
you can listen to conversations inside the car without
letting any passenger or driver know.
Comes with detailed instructions on how to work with
GPRS enabled SIM and setup internet monitoring (fixed
